Nevada SPCA Special Needs Dogs While all animals and people have "special needs" due to their individuality and preferences, we're highlighting these sweethearts below for extra attention. They need heroes to help them recover and bloom, and each bears the greatest gift -- unconditional love -- for the person or couple willing and able to rise to the challenge for their loving care with a lifetime commitment. |

Chanelle Chanelle is a very spunky, energetic little puppy. She is a Miniature Pinscher mix, 10 months of age. She adores other dogs, and vocal if you do not let her play with them. The glassy look in her right eye was diagnosed by a veterinarian as being the result of severe head trauma when she was younger. Her left eye reportedly recovered, but it's unknown whether her right eye will improve in time or not. She will do best with an experienced, very patient home. Please have her veterinarian monitor her eye regularly. |

Kenji & Kenai These young boys are all smiles. They radiate joy and good cheer. They are Shiba Inu & Siberian Husky mixes, and soul-mates, approximately 2-3 years of age. They are housetrained & crate-trained, as well as being good with mature children and friendly dogs. Kenji is being treated for a thyroid condition. It has resulted in skin problems, which are being treated too. We expect him to do well on this treatment plan and we can explain it to you when you visit. Please also plan on regular check-ups with your veterinarian. These strongly bonded youngsters will bring a lifetime of sunshine to your family. |

Chocolate Truffle This young girl has tremendous loving potential. She has been the victim of abuse. She is very anxious and confused about losing her family and showing great fear. She has not bitten anyone, but she is warning us to take it slow with her and be cautious. A stable routine in a quieter, loving home will help her gain confidence. An adult-only home is needed at this time. Chocolate Truffle is reportedly housetrained. Please plan on regular brushing/grooming for her too. She is a smaller Chow Chow, approximately 3 years young. |

Cuddles & Baby Update: We received new information indicating they are in the age range of 10-16 years. Please, someone very loving & tender -- please step forward for these heavenly older girls. At 16 years of age, these soul-mates cherish every day left in this world. Both are seemingly in fine health and both are exceptionally sweet and good-natured. Cuddles is a smaller Siberian Husky mix and Baby is a smaller Chow Chow mix. They are bonded very closely, so our strong preference is keeping them together. How could this happen to them at this age? But we ask this every hour of every day for the animals in need of rescue -- and the answer never comes. So we seek very hard to find the best of human nature to adopt & love the babies. |

Caesar This joyful, well-behaved boy is an exceptionally handsome Belgian Malinois mix, perhaps with Dutch Shepherd, and he is approximately 8 year of age (though he looks and acts younger). Low-tone growling is the basis for his special needs. Though he has not bitten nor snarled at anyone, he is vocal and uses low-tone growls to warn people who get too close to his face. While this is a form of communication, it has caused us great concern. We enrolled him in basic dog training with a volunteer escort. He excelled, and graduated from his class. But the low-tone growling continues. So an experienced, adult-only home is required, with the understanding that he will strictly not have exposure to children. He may benefit from advanced dog training class, which we will provide complimentarily to his adopter. |

Ice Ice is a snow-white Bully, 3 years of age, who is full of love for people. Our heart broke for her when her owner bred her for puppies to sell and then threw her away before her milk had even dried. We are committed to ensuring that she only knows tender compassion for the rest of her life. Her challenge now is her severe allergies, which have resulted in extreme scratching and skin problems. But she is on medication and making slow improvements. Many people have stepped forward to assist her. Please watch the video below by volunteers Manuel & Stephanie, who are helping to provide for her care, to learn more about Ice and her journey to better health and comfort in preparation for a loving forever home. |

Pancake Life on three legs is not slowing down this athletic, outgoing young boy who loves life with all of his heart. We rescued him from being killed at a local veterinary hospital. He had been taken there after being hit by a car, but his owner refused emergency treatment for him. His back right leg was crushed and could not be saved. Pancake loves people! But he is not socialized with other animals and must strictly be the only pet in the home. He is a cute and playful Heinz 57 with Bully & Retriever, rich gold eyes and a deep rust-brown coat, one year of age. He is eager to please and ready to tackle new adventures with you. Please be sure to set aside time for daily walks and playtime for his physical and emotional well-being. |

Medusa She may finally get to know how wonderful a loving home can be. We believe she spent her life, until now, unloved and unappreciated. She is in recovery not for just severe physical neglect, but for emotional neglect too. She is not used to being touched and she gets cranky easily. Yet another side of her clearly craves adoration and affection. She has what is believed to be a harmless fatty tumor on her chest. Medusa is good with other dogs. She is a Shih-Tzu, approximately 10 years of age. Please surprise her with all of the love and commitment that comes with the better side of human nature. |

Falcor This heavenly boy needs a guardian angel. His allergies are so severe that his diet and surroundings require substantial limitations. This caution though, and his daily medications, are a small price to pay for the world of unconditional love he can offer. Because of his allergies, he has lost numerous homes, so when he bonds and loves he becomes fearful he will lose a loved one again. Not surprisingly, this has resulted in separation anxiety, which can diminish with time and trust and a steady routine. Falcor is a snow white & creme Cocker Spaniel, approximately 8 years of age. He is great with other dogs. |

Porscha She loves life with all her heart. You can see her great joys in her face every time she gets a hug or anticipates playtime. We found several lumps on her underside. They were removed and tested to verify they were cancerous. Her veterinary surgeon believes all of the cancerous matter was removed, but there is no guarantee that a trace was not left behind or that growths will not form again. On the other hand, she may be free of cancer for the rest of her life. The focus though must be, like with all of us, on quality of life, staying comfortable and enjoying love and daily pleasures. She is an enthusiastic spirit, Dalmatian mix, approximately 10 years of age, and full of good cheer. |

Miss Universe Her survival and improvements are miraculous, attesting to her beautiful spirit and will to live. She is an exceptionally sweet Bully mix puppy, approximately 10 months young. She arrived to us months ago, just weeks old with extreme mange and sick with the deadly parvo virus. It has taken a few months of wonderful care, but she is now ready for adoption and her whole life is brightly ahead for her to look forward to. Her remaining special needs are for her allergies, so she eats a special diet (hypoallergenic food), takes daily medication (Benadryl), and weekly medicated baths (at least in the short term). |

Dawnielle She's a big kisser, affectionate and very friendly . . . to human women. But human males cause her fear and distress. Her special need is that she takes on the role of 'protector' when she's with women and may trip to nip or warn off men. In an experienced home, with patience and training to help her realize her "job" is to have fun & be part of the family, this behavior can be curbed. She's a Boxer mix, approximately 3 years young. |

Sandy For several months this three-year old girl survived on a golf course in a feral state, afraid of everyone. One of our staff caught her (and the rescue alone would be a great movie!) and trust has been slowly building since. She's a big hugger, a chocolate tuxedo Bully mix, with stunning gold eyes. Her special needs include: needing continued training (free for her at the SPCA), very close supervision because she can jump walls, and she's best as the only pet. She needs a great hero! |
