Our Founding

Founded in 1982, Nevada SPCA is Southern Nevada’s original no-kill animal shelter.

Nevada SPCA is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that relies entirely on grants and the generous donations of animal lovers like you to make our lifesaving work possible. We do not receive funding from any national SPCA or ASPCA organization, nor from any government agency. As an independent nonprofit, we are proud to serve the animals and people of Southern Nevada.

Our commitment to trust, transparency, and responsible stewardship is reflected in Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating and Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency (formerly GuideStar). These honors recognize our dedication to maximizing the impact of every dollar to help the animals who need us most.

Our Story

Each year, Nevada SPCA takes in more than 2,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small pets. We treat every animal in our care as an individual—with a name, identity, and unique personality. Our ultimate goal is to place each one into a loving home where they can thrive, provide companionship, and build meaningful relationships with their human families.

In 2021, after more than fifteen years at our former location on Dewey Drive, Nevada SPCA was thrilled to welcome the community to our new home at 5375 Procyon St., Suite #108. This newly constructed facility was designed to be a welcoming, healthy environment where dogs, cats, and small animals receive compassionate care on their journey to forever homes. It also provides a friendly and accessible space for adopters, fosters, volunteers, and community members to connect and support our mission.

Beyond sheltering and adoption, Nevada SPCA is committed to supporting both pets and the people who love them. Through our Community Support Program, we assist pet owners facing financial hardship by providing access to critical veterinary services. Funded entirely through grants and donations, this program helps keep pets with their families during challenging times and prevents unnecessary surrender to shelters.

“This is the realization of a dream for Nevada SPCA and for Southern Nevada, made possible by the generous support of many donors who truly care about animals and building a more humane community for all of us,” said Nevada SPCA Executive Director Lori Heeren.

After arriving in our care when her previous family was no longer able to care for her, our veterinary team made sure Nala received her spay surgery and vaccinations before she found her perfect forever family! 💖 🏡 🐾 ⁣
⁣
We’re so happy she’s starting her next chapter in a loving home: ⁣
⁣
“She’s doing great! We renamed her Brenda, which honestly fits her personality so much better, and she responds wonderfully to it.⁣
⁣
She has already lost about 4 pounds and has become such a happy, active part of our family. She has a little dog sister that she loves running around and playing with, and she also loves wrestling and playing with our 2-year-old son. They have become such cute little buddies.⁣
⁣
She has settled in really well and seems very comfortable with us. Her personality has really come out more and more since we brought her home, and she is such a sweet, funny, loving girl. We’re very happy to have her and feel like she fits perfectly into our family.”⁣
⁣
Happy tails, Brenda! ⁣

Apollo has the most adorable widdle face! 🥹⁣
⁣
This 3-year-old (60 lbs) boy was a little shy when he first arrived in our care, but he’s since warmed up and is showing off his playful personality! Apollo is a bubbly, friendly, and affectionate boy who enjoys playtime and car rides. 🦴 🚗 🐶⁣
⁣
He’s lived with kids who know how to be gentle and other dogs (meet-and-greet with any current household dogs). Apollo reportedly likes to chase cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.⁣
⁣
This cutie is ready to find a loving family who will give him the love, care, and lifelong commitment he deserves. Meet Apollo at Nevada SPCA! 🏡 🐾⁣
