Helping Pets & People in Las vegas, NV

Why Families in Las Vegas Choose Nevada SPCA

Founded in 1982, Nevada SPCA is Southern Nevada’s original no-kill animal shelter and a trusted resource for Las Vegas families and their pets. As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely entirely on grants and the generosity of animal lovers like you. We do not receive funding from any national SPCA or ASPCA organization, nor from any government agency, which means every dollar you give stays right here, helping local animals in need. Each year, we take in more than 2,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small pets, treating each one as an individual with a name, identity, and unique personality. Our commitment to trust and responsible care has earned Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating and Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency. When you choose Nevada SPCA, you choose a Las Vegas organization devoted to giving every animal a second chance at a loving home.

Open Your Las Vegas Home Through Foster Care

Fostering is one of the most meaningful ways to help shelter animals in the Las Vegas community, and our foster care family makes it possible for vulnerable pets to thrive while they wait for adoption. By opening your home to a foster pet, you give them a calm, nurturing place to grow, heal, and prepare for their forever family. Foster homes are especially valuable for young animals who are not yet old enough for adoption, pets recovering from medical treatment, and animals who simply need a break from the shelter environment. Whatever your schedule or experience level, Nevada SPCA provides the supplies, medical support, and guidance you need, so all you have to bring is your love and care. Fostering saves lives and creates space for us to help even more Las Vegas animals in need. If you’re ready to make a difference, we encourage you to join our foster care family today.

Community Support Programs for Las Vegas Pet Owners

At Nevada SPCA, our commitment to animals extends beyond our shelter walls and into the heart of the Las Vegas community. We believe pets belong with the families who love them, which is why our community support programs help owners facing financial hardship keep their beloved companions at home. Funded entirely through grants and donations, these programs provide access to critical resources during difficult times and help prevent unnecessary surrenders to the shelter. Through our veterinary assistance programs, we connect pet owners with care they may not otherwise be able to afford, while our pet pantry food assistance helps keep bowls full when budgets are tight. We also offer $5 pet microchipping to give your furry family member the best chance of finding their way home if they ever become lost. If you need a little extra help caring for your pet in Las Vegas, we’re here for you and your four-legged loved ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the adoption process?

Nevada SPCA is a walk-in shelter, and adoptions are based in first come, first served. The adoption process typically takes about an hour. During this time, you'll meet the pet and speak with our knowledgeable staff to ensure that they're a good fit for your home and lifestyle. If it's a good match, you can complete the application and bring your pet home the same day. You must be 18+ years of age to adopt and provide a valid photo ID with current address. A meet-and-greet with any current household dogs is required for some dogs. If you are renting, you are responsible for checking your lease agreement for any pet restrictions including and not limited to breed and size.

Am I responsible for veterinary care once this pet is adopted?

Once the adoption is finalized, you are responsible for establishing care for your pet at a veterinary clinic of your choice. We will provide you with the pet's current medical records at the time of adoption.

What is an FTA?

FTA stands for Foster to Adopt. Any animal with "FTA" listed after their name is part of our Foster to Adopt program. Nevada SPCA's Foster to Adopt program allows pets - typically young puppies and kittens who are not yet old enough or large enough to be spayed or neutered - to go into loving homes before their surgery. These animals stay with their foster family until they are ready for their procedure, at which point the adoption is finalized. This program is crucial because it keeps young animals out of the shelter during their critical developmental months and allows Nevada SPCA to help more pets in need by freeing up shelter space.

Nova’s resilience and gentle spirit have shined brightly despite the pain this sweet girl has endured. ❤️‍🩹

She came into our care after surviving a devastating dog attack that left her with deep wounds requiring immediate veterinary care through our partners at @companionah_lv.⁣⁣

Through it all, Nova kept her tail wagging and remained trusting, affectionate, and full of love. And now, she gets to leave her difficult past behind. ✨⁣⁣

We couldn’t be happier that Nova has been adopted and gets to begin this next chapter surrounded by the unconditional love she has always deserved. 💫⁣⁣

Happy tails, sweet Nova! 🐾🏡
