General Information
What is Nevada SPCA?
Nevada SPCA is Southern Nevada’s original no-kill animal shelter, serving the Las Vegas Valley since 1982. We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on adoptions, foster care, and community support programs that keep pets with the families who love them.
Is Nevada SPCA part of the ASPCA or a national organization?
No. Nevada SPCA is an independent local nonprofit. We are not a local chapter of the ASPCA and do not receive funding from any national SPCA. We also receive no government contract funding, so every donation stays local and helps pets right here in Southern Nevada.
Where is Nevada SPCA located?
We are located at 5375 S Procyon St. Suite 108, Las Vegas, NV 89118.
What are your hours?
We are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and closed on Sunday.
How is Nevada SPCA funded?
Nevada SPCA relies almost entirely on donations from individuals, businesses, and grants. We hold Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating and a Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, so you can give with confidence knowing your dollars go toward helping animals in need.
How can I contact Nevada SPCA?
Call (702) 873-7722, email info@nevadaspca.org, or visit us during shelter hours. You can also reach us through Instagram, Facebook, and our other social channels at @nevada.spca.
Pet Adoptions
How do I adopt a pet from Nevada SPCA?
Adoptions are walk-in during shelter hours, so no appointment is needed. Visit us Monday through Saturday, meet the animals, and sit down with an adoption counselor who can share what we know about each pet’s history, health, and personality to help you find the right match.
The adoption process typically takes about an hour. During this time, you’ll meet the pet and speak with our staff to ensure they’re a good fit for your home and lifestyle. If it’s a good match, you can complete the application and bring your pet home the same day. You must be 18+ years of age to adopt and provide a valid photo ID with your current address. A meet-and-greet with any current household dogs is required for some dogs. If you are renting, you’re responsible for checking your lease agreement for any pet restrictions, including and not limited to breed and size.
What animals are available to adopt?
We have dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, and other small animals available for adoption. You can view current adoptable pets anytime here.
What is included in the adoption fee?
Every dog, cat, puppy, and kitten goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Rabbits are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated for RHDV. All of this care is included in your adoption fee.
How much does it cost to adopt?
Adoption fees vary by animal type and age and are kept affordable because they are subsidized by donations. Since fees can change, please check the current pricing on our adoption page or ask a counselor at the shelter. Seniors 65 and older who adopt a pet aged 7 or older may qualify for a waived adoption fee through our Senior for Senior program.
Can I put a pet on hold?
The best way to ensure a pet is still available is to visit during shelter hours, since adoptions are first-come, first-served. Ask our staff about current hold options when you visit.
What if my adopted pet has not been spayed or neutered yet?
Some pets go home before their spay/neuter surgery through a foster-to-adopt arrangement. In that case, you return the pet to Nevada SPCA for the scheduled surgery, and the adoption is officially finalized once the surgery is complete. Until then, the animal remains in our care program, so it’s important to keep that appointment or contact us in advance to reschedule.
Should I bring my family when adopting?
Yes. We encourage you to bring everyone in your household, including children and any current dog, to make sure the new pet is a good fit for the whole family.
Fostering Opportunities
Why should I foster a pet?
Fostering saves lives. It reduces overcrowding and opens up shelter space for another animal in need. A foster home gives a pet room to decompress, work through fears, recover from trauma, or recuperate after a medical procedure, and it helps us learn about their personality so we can find the right forever home.
How does fostering work at Nevada SPCA?
Start by completing our online foster application. All foster placements are by appointment, and the number of openings depends on current needs. Please allow three to four business days for review, after which our Foster Team will email you with the next steps. Remember to check your spam folder.
Does it cost money to foster?
No. Nevada SPCA provides all the necessary supplies; you just provide the love and care.
What if my foster pet has a medical issue after hours?
Foster parents have access to after-hours emergency veterinary triage through VetTriage telehealth, with the cost covered by Nevada SPCA. A veterinarian will assess whether your pet needs an emergency visit or can be cared for at home, and they will help you locate a 24-hour hospital if needed.
I can’t commit to weeks of fostering. Are there shorter options?
Yes. Through our Give a Dog a Day Out program, you can take an eligible shelter dog out for a few hours or longer, whether that is a hike, a car ride, or backyard playtime. These outings give dogs a break from shelter life and help us learn more about their true personalities. Just complete the foster application to get started.
Veterinary Assistance & Pet Health Resources
Does Nevada SPCA have a public veterinary clinic?
No. Nevada SPCA does not operate its own public clinic. We maintain a list of partner clinics across the Las Vegas Valley that offer spay/neuter, vaccines, and other services. Please call the clinic directly to ask about pricing and appointments.
Can Nevada SPCA help if I can’t afford my pet’s vet care?
Our grant-funded Community Support Program may provide one-time financial assistance toward veterinary treatment for pet owners experiencing financial hardship. You can apply online, and we ask that you allow up to three business days for review. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
What does the veterinary assistance program not cover?
The program cannot cover critical or emergency care, including spinal problems, ongoing conditions such as IVDD, diabetes, kidney disease, or chronic allergies, or any treatment requiring hospitalization. Please do not delay urgent care while waiting on an application.
My pet has an emergency. What should I do?
Do not rely on the assistance application for emergencies. Contact a veterinarian or emergency animal hospital immediately if your pet shows urgent symptoms such as difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting, seizures, uncontrolled bleeding, a swollen or painful abdomen, staggering, an inability to urinate, or an inability to walk.
Pet Microchipping
How much does microchipping cost at Nevada SPCA?
Microchips are $5 per pet, kept affordable thanks to donations and sponsorships. This low-cost service helps families comply with Clark County’s microchip requirement for dogs and cats.
Which animals can be microchipped?
Microchipping is available for cats and dogs only. We are not able to microchip other animals at this time.
When can I get my pet microchipped, and do I need an appointment?
$5 microchipping is offered by appointment on Wednesday afternoons at the shelter. Schedule your appointment online, as space is limited. There is a limit of three pets per household.
Why is a microchip important?
A microchip is the only permanent form of identification that can reunite you with your pet. Unlike collars and tags, which can break or wear out, a microchip lasts your pet’s lifetime. When scanned, it shares only a unique ID number, not your personal information, which the microchip company uses to reconnect you with your pet.
Pet Pantry Assistance
What is the Nevada SPCA Pet Pantry?
The Pet Pantry provides dog food, cat food, and select pet supplies to Las Vegas families experiencing hardship. Launched in October 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has since helped thousands of pets and families and is funded entirely through donations and community partnerships.
How do I receive food from the Pet Pantry?
Visit our Pet Pantry booking site and fill out your information to schedule a pick-up appointment. Pick-ups are available Monday through Saturday by appointment at 5375 S Procyon St, Suite 108, Las Vegas, NV 89118.
Who can apply for Pet Pantry assistance?
One person per household can apply. The Pantry can supply food for up to the legal limit of pets per household, which is three dogs and three cats. The program supports personal pets; rescues should email info@nevadaspca.org to ask about the Greater Goods Program.
What kind of food does the Pet Pantry provide?
Because the Pantry is donation-driven, brands and types vary, but we try to keep both canned and dry food in stock for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. Pet Pantry support is meant as temporary, supplemental help, not a permanent food source.
Does the Pet Pantry deliver?
At this time, the Pet Pantry does not offer delivery. Food is available for scheduled pick-up at the shelter.
Volunteer Opportunities
How can I volunteer at Nevada SPCA?
We welcome volunteers to help our staff inside the shelter and out in the community. You can learn about current opportunities and apply online.
What kind of impact do volunteers make?
On average, our volunteers take around 10,000 dog walks each year and give cats thousands of head scratches. In 2025, volunteers contributed more than 9,200 hours of their time to help animals in our care.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No special experience is required to get started. Our team will help you find a role that fits your interests and schedule, whether that is animal care, events, or community outreach. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Loads of Love Program
What is the Loads of Love program?
Loads of Love is our community laundry program. With around 200 animals on the property at any time and no large commercial washers, keeping up with laundry is a constant challenge. Through Loads of Love, community members wash towels, blankets, and sheets at home while reducing waste.
How does Loads of Love work?
Stop by the Loads of Love bin in our lobby, in front of the Dog Adoption entrance, and take as many pre-bagged loads as you would like. Each bag includes instructions, a detergent pod, a dryer sheet, and a white return bag. Wash the laundry at home and return it whenever is convenient.
Can my group or organization participate?
Absolutely. Groups, schools, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to take part. Tag us on social media or send photos to findhappiness@nevadaspca.org so we can share your kindness.
What are donation drives, and how do I host one?
A donation drive is any community effort to collect needed items or raise funds for our animals. Ideas include a donation-based yoga class, a bake sale, a car wash, a restaurant give-back night, or a supply drive at your work, school, or place of worship. Check our In-Kind Donations page for the current list of needed items.
Donations & Giving
How can I donate to Nevada SPCA?
You can make a one-time or monthly gift online at nevadaspca.org/donate. Recurring monthly donations are an especially powerful way to provide steady support for animals in our care.
Will my donation stay local?
Yes. Nevada SPCA receives no government funding and is not affiliated with any national SPCA, so your donation stays in Southern Nevada and directly impacts local pets.
What other ways can I give?
Beyond cash gifts, you can contribute through in-kind donations of supplies, the Critical Need Fund, the Rainbow Bridge Memorial, estate and planned giving, vehicle donation, real estate, retirement assets, or by shopping our online store. Every purchase and gift helps save more pets. Learn more about the many ways you can donate.
What supplies does the shelter need?
We gladly accept donations of any brand of dog or cat food, including both canned and kibble, along with other pet essentials. Check our In-Kind Donations page for the current list of needed items.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Nevada SPCA (Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 88-0187383. Please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific situation.
Lost & Found Pets
I lost my pet. What should I do?
Act quickly. Visit our Lost & Found Pets resource for advice on next seps, and check with area shelters and animal services. If your pet is microchipped, make sure your contact information is current with the microchip company so you can be reached if your pet is found.
I found a stray pet. What should I do?
Our Lost & Found Pets page walks you through the right steps to help reunite a found pet with its family, including having the animal scanned for a microchip. This is also a strong reminder of why microchipping your own pets matters.
I found kittens. What should I do?
Finding kittens does not always mean they have been abandoned, and the right response depends on the situation. Please review our Found Kittens guide before intervening, as the mother cat may still be nearby.
How does microchipping help with lost pets?
A registered microchip gives a lost pet its best chance of getting home. It provides permanent identification that a collar or tag cannot, which is why we offer $5 microchipping for dogs and cats.
Events & Community Programs
What events does Nevada SPCA host?
We host community events throughout the year, from our annual Neon Dog Walk to pop-up shops and partner fundraisers. View the full calendar at nevadaspca.org/events.
What community support programs does Nevada SPCA offer?
Our community programs are designed to keep pets with their families and include the Pet Pantry food assistance program, veterinary assistance, and $5 pet microchipping. Learn more on our Community Support page.
How can my business partner with Nevada SPCA?
We work with community partners across Southern Nevada through sponsorships, give-back events, and donation drives. Visit our Community Partners page to explore partnership opportunities.
I need to rehome my pet. Can Nevada SPCA help?
