Helping Pets & People in Henderson, NV

The Nevada SPCA Difference for Henderson, NV, Pet Lovers

For over four decades, Nevada SPCA has been quietly transforming the lives of Southern Nevada’s animals, and Henderson families have always been part of that story. We opened our doors in 1982 as the region’s first no-kill animal shelter, and our purpose hasn’t shifted since. We strive to give every dog, cat, rabbit, and small pet who comes through our doors the safest path possible toward a happy ending. As an independent 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit, we operate without funding from any government source or national SPCA or ASPCA organization, meaning the support we receive from Henderson residents stays local and goes directly to local animals. Each year, over 2,000 pets benefit from our care, and behind that number are individual personalities, quirks, and stories that deserve recognition. Independent nonprofit watchdogs have taken notice, awarding us Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating and Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency. For Henderson animal lovers, that’s a promise you can trust.

Become a Lifeline for Henderson Animals by Fostering

The journey from shelter pet to family member is rarely a straight line, and that’s where Nevada SPCA’s foster volunteers come in. By offering your Henderson home as a temporary haven, you give an animal something we can’t replicate in a shelter environment, including peace, routine, and the steady presence of a loving family. Our foster homes are particularly important for newborn puppies and kittens who need round-the-clock attention, pets recovering from medical procedures, and animals whose spirits need time to bloom outside the busy shelter. You don’t need to be a seasoned animal caregiver to help. We supply everything from food and bedding to veterinary support and ongoing guidance, so your only job is showing up with kindness and love. Each foster placement opens our doors to another animal we can rescue, multiplying the impact of your generosity. If you’ve been searching for a meaningful way to help Henderson pets, fostering is one of the most rewarding paths forward.

Helping Henderson Families Hold On to the Pets They Love

We know that loving a pet sometimes means navigating moments when caring for them feels harder than expected, and Nevada SPCA stands ready to help Henderson households through those stretches. Our community support programs exist for precisely this reason, offering resources that allow owners to keep their animals at home rather than face the painful prospect of surrender. Every program we run in this area is fueled by grants and donor support, ensuring that financial obstacles don’t have to come between a pet and their family. Veterinary assistance programs help connect Henderson pet owners with affordable care when health concerns arise, and our pet pantry food assistance keeps mealtimes consistent during difficult financial seasons. We also offer $5 microchipping services, a small step that gives lost pets the best possible chance of finding their way home. Whatever challenge you’re facing as a pet owner in Henderson, NV, we want to help.

Make a Hands-On Impact as a Henderson Volunteer

Behind every wagging tail and happy adoption story at Nevada SPCA is a network of dedicated volunteers who donate their time, and there’s a meaningful role waiting for any Henderson resident ready to join in. Each year, our volunteers contribute thousands of hours that touch nearly every corner of our operation, from playing with kittens and walking dogs to greeting adopters and supporting community events. You can match your involvement to your interests, whether that means spending one-on-one time with a shy cat, helping at off-site adoption gatherings, or contributing your professional skills behind the scenes. If hands-on hours aren’t possible, you can still get involved through donation drives, community partnerships, and seasonal fundraising events. However you participate, your time makes a difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the adoption process?

Nevada SPCA is a walk-in shelter, and adoptions are based in first come, first served. The adoption process typically takes about an hour. During this time, you'll meet the pet and speak with our knowledgeable staff to ensure that they're a good fit for your home and lifestyle. If it's a good match, you can complete the application and bring your pet home the same day. You must be 18+ years of age to adopt and provide a valid photo ID with current address. A meet-and-greet with any current household dogs is required for some dogs. If you are renting, you are responsible for checking your lease agreement for any pet restrictions including and not limited to breed and size.

Am I responsible for veterinary care once this pet is adopted?

Once the adoption is finalized, you are responsible for establishing care for your pet at a veterinary clinic of your choice. We will provide you with the pet's current medical records at the time of adoption.

What is an FTA?

FTA stands for Foster to Adopt. Any animal with "FTA" listed after their name is part of our Foster to Adopt program. Nevada SPCA's Foster to Adopt program allows pets - typically young puppies and kittens who are not yet old enough or large enough to be spayed or neutered - to go into loving homes before their surgery. These animals stay with their foster family until they are ready for their procedure, at which point the adoption is finalized. This program is crucial because it keeps young animals out of the shelter during their critical developmental months and allows Nevada SPCA to help more pets in need by freeing up shelter space.
